Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a service that offers an "always-on" high-speed Internet connection, meaning you're always connected to the Internet. DSL rides on top of a standard phone line. Both voice and data can use the line at the same time.
DSL is perfect for businesses wanting fast Internet access at affordable prices. DSL isn't the right choice if you need the utmost in reliability and guaranteed performance. In that case, a T1, Fixed Wireless or Ethernet MAN connection would be the better solution.
Most, but not all, phone lines in Oregon qualify for DSL. EasyStreet can provide DSL service to Qwest and Verizon phone customers within their respective territories in area codes 503, 971, 360 and 541. Use our Availability Tool to see whether EasyStreet can provide DSL and which speeds are available to you.
Not necessarily. Qualifying for DSL depends on distance from your central office, how your line is provisioned, and whether there's any "interference" on the line (technical options that enhance voice service but prevent a line's use with DSL). Sometimes ordering a new line can circumvent some problems, other times it doesn't. Check with your telephone company for advice. If your line isn't DSL-capable, we'll work with you on exploring your options, such as Dial-up, a T1 or Fixed Wireless.
Some businesses have a phone company that is not Qwest or Verizon or rely solely on cell phones. EasyStreet can only provide DSL to Qwest and Verizon land line customers. You could add a Qwest or Verizon phone line to use EasyStreet DSL. Some businesses in Qwest territory are eligible for data-only (no voice) Standalone DSL.
Most DSL is asymmetric, meaning that the speed "up" to the Internet may be slower than the speed "down." For example, a speed of 1.5Mbps/896k means up to 1.5 Mbps for downloading and up to 896 Kbps for uploading. Asymmetric speeds can have an impact on real-time applications such as video conferencing that require high-speed connections in both directions. If you intend to use these kinds of applications, EasyStreet recommends one of the symmetrical DSL options or a T1, Fixed Wireless or Ethernet MAN.
Internet Protocol (IP) are the universal addresses of the Internet and are assigned to your computers by EasyStreet when you connect to our systems. A static IP address is assigned to your system(s) as long as you are an EasyStreet customer.
If you would like to run your own servers that connect services to the Internet (mail servers, Web servers, game servers), select an account with an "unfiltered" static IP: Small Office LAN or Corporate LAN.
Our Small Office/Home Office accounts have a "protected" static IP that is a normal dedicated IP address with incoming requests blocked. This prevents using the account for hosting Web, email, and other Internet services. It also provides some protection against unauthorized access from computers on the Internet. The protection filter blocks all incoming requests on standard ports (<1024). The Small Office/Home Office account is ideal for Web browsing and normal Internet uses.
The DSL modem, which connects between the data part of the phone line and your computer, is purchased or rented from your telephone company. Qwest offers the Actiontec DSL modem/router for $5/month rental or $59.99 purchase, or the 2Wire 2700HG for $8/month rental or $149.99 purchase. Qwest sometimes discounts the purchase price; check here for current Qwest promotions. Verizon uses a Westell 2200 DSL modem/router, which it sells for $49.95.
Most of our users successfully do a self-install by following our technical support instructions. If you need on-site assistance, your phone company can send an installer for a fee, or our technical support can recommend a third-party installer.
Both Qwest and Verizon charge a DSL service activation fee and a monthly service charge for enabling DSL on your telephone line. These are in addition to EasyStreet's Internet Service Provider (ISP) charges.
First, get your line tested to ensure DSL is available to you and to see which speeds we can provide. Then, review our service options and order online. We will reply with confirmation and setup instructions.
